Thank you Ged - June 2006

Gerard Callacher

We are sorry to have to say goodbye to Ged Callacher, who has been our accompanist for the last six years.

Ged was appointed organist at St Joan of Arc, Bootle at the age of ten.  As organist at Blessed Sacrament Church, Aintree and Director of Music at St Faith's Church, Crosby, he has been responsible for the choir's performance at such venues as St George's Chapel, Windsor, Wakefield Cathedral and our two Cathedrals in Liverpool.

Ged held the post of Organ Scholar at Liverpool Cathedral from 1998 - 2000.  He graduated from Liverpool University in 1999 with a BA (Hons) in Music and gained his Master's degree in Music in 2003.  He has taught piano and organ at St Margaret's High School, Aigburth and at Childwall Comprehensive.  He also worked as a peripatetic piano and woodwind teacher and as an accompanist for Liverpool's Music Support Service.

Most important of all, Ged has been accompanist for Birkenhead Choral Society (as well as Formby Choral Society) for the last six years and acted as deputy conductor.  We are grateful for his skilled and good-humoured support and friendship over that time.  We are very sad to see him leave but he has our wholehearted support as he moves to Durham to begin six years' training for the Roman Catholic Priesthood.

We wish him every success in his new calling and look forward to maintaining contact and hearing about his vocation.
